What is Personal Colour Analysis?

Find your unique colours.

Many of us have stared at our wardrobes feeling overwhelmed by choices and still unsure what actually looks good on us. If you’ve ever wondered why some colours make you glow while others leave you looking washed out, you’re already on the path to understanding seasonal colour analysis. This method of personal styling groups people into colour “seasons” to identify which hues flatter them most. In other words, colour analysis is all about finding the palette of colours that enhances your natural beauty – so you can look more radiant with less effort.

The 12-Season System – Finding Your Unique Palette

Seasonal colour analysis began with the idea of four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Each season represents a set of colour characteristics:

  • Spring: Warm peachy or bright golden undertones and fresh, light or clear colours (think peachy or coral tones).

  • Summer: Cool or pinkish undertones and soft, slightly muted shades (dusty pinks, smokey blues).

  • Autumn: Warm, soft golden undertones and rich, earthy hues (olive, rust, mustard and warm browns).

  • Winter: Cool, clear undertones and bold, high-contrast colour (jewel tones, icy brights).

This four-season approach is a great introduction to discovering your best colours. However, not everyone fits neatly into just those boxes. That’s why I work with the 12-season system for even greater precision.

Human colouring is nuanced. You might find you’re mostly a Summer, but a few typical “Summer” shades don’t do you justice, or perhaps you sit between Summer and Autumn. The 12-season colour analysis system takes the four basic seasons and adds more dimension, dividing each into sub-categories for a total of 12 possible palettes. For example, instead of simply “Autumn,” you could be a Soft Autumn or a Deep Autumn, depending on whether warm, muted, and gentle colours or richer, more saturated, neutral-warm tones flatter you most.

By working with this advanced system, I ensure your personalised palette is perfectly tailored to:

  • Your undertone (warm or cool),

  • Your depth (light, medium or deep), and

  • Your intensity (soft/muted or bright/clear).

  • Your contrast (High, low or medium contrast).

This means you’ll receive a colour profile that feels uniquely “you.”

Why Invest in a Personal Colour Analysis?

You might be thinking, “This sounds fantastic, but how can it work online?” My convenient digital colour analysis aims to be as accurate and personalised as an in-person drape, following methods designed by the respected International Image Institute — without leaving your home or payting the premium price of a studio visit. Here’s an overview of the process:

  1. Submit Your Photos
After you book, I’ll send you simple guidelines for taking three to five clear photos in natural daylight, wearing neutral tones and no makeup or filters. This lets me see your true skin, eye and hair colouring. I also use childhood or teenage photos with your most natural hair colour to get even more accuracy.

  2. Professional Analysis
I personally examine your photos using the International Image Institute’s seasonal method. By digitally “draping” a range of colour swatches near your face, I observe how each hue interacts with your complexion and features — comparing cool vs. warm tones and soft vs. bright contrasts and more. This expert-driven process ensures your results go far deeper than an automated quiz.

  3. Your Season Revealed
Once I’ve narrowed it down, I’ll identify your precise season (for example, Light Spring or True Winter). We’ll know exactly which palette harmonises with your unique colouring.

  4. Personalised Colour Guide
We then create your bespoke 15-page PDF guide, delivered by email. Inside you’ll find:

    • Your season summary: A clear explanation of what your season means for your look.

    • Your colour palette: Swatches of your best neutrals, basics and accent shades.

    • Practical tips: Advice on how to use your palette in clothing, accessories and makeup—plus hints on shopping smarter.

Once you have your guide, you can start applying your new colour knowledge straight away.

Some of the advantages of a personalised colour palette:

  • Confidence Boost: Wearing the right hues makes you look and feel more vibrant, reducing outfit stress and shopping dilemmas.

  • Smart Shopping: With your personal palette in hand, you’ll avoid impulse buys in the wrong shades and invest in pieces you’ll actually wear.

  • Wardrobe Harmony: Your clothes will mix and match effortlessly, giving you more outfit options from fewer garments.

  • Time & Money Saved: No more trial-and-error. You shop for you, not for a generic trend.
